Meet Dr. Tina Williams

I am a doctorally prepared, triple-board certified Nurse Practitioner. I am licensed in the state of Georgia and maintain board certifications as a Psychiatric, Family and Midwife Nurse Practitioner. I am highly qualified to assess, diagnose, order and treat, including prescribe medications similar to my physician colleagues. When needed and appropriate, I collaborate with other health care professionals like physicians, therapists, counselors, dietitians, pharmacists and others to deliver a well-rounded experience and improved outcome.

My Story

I am a proud graduate of Vanderbilt and Emory University where I completed a doctorate in nursing practice and multiple degrees in nursing, respectively. I have a Post Master’s in Psych-Mental Health from Georgia College and State University. Post secondary school, I obtained a Bachelor’s in Biology from High Point University. I maintain three board-certifications as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry, Family and Midwifery, which makes me highly qualified to care for you and your entire family. My love for learning may be obvious, but while highly educated and experienced, my path to success has been and remains humble. I have a patient-centered, comprehensive and integrated approach, caring for individuals and families ethically with compassion, integrity, inclusion and equity.

I am a mother of 3, spouse, friend, working woman of color and survivor. My super power is optimism.

What's the Difference?

Psychiatrists are physicians (medical doctors) who use medication to treat your symptoms. Psychologists and therapists use therapy to help you talk through your problems.

Nurse Practitioners (NP) and Physician Associates (PA) are advanced trained and board-certified medical professionals who may work with the supervision of a physician. NPs and PAs are able to diagnose conditions, create treatment plans, and prescribe medications through an agreement with a supervising physician. As of 2023, thirty-two states allow NPs to practice independent of physician oversight, to the fullest extent of training and licensure, meaning a supervising physician and agreement is not necessary. Georgia does not (yet) offer NPs full practice authority.

Psychologists, psychiatrists and even Nurse Practitioners have doctoral degrees, usually a PhD or PsyD for psychologists, a MD or DO for psychiatrists and a DNP for Nurse Practitioners. Therapy providers have masters degrees in counseling, social work, or family and marital counseling. All of these professionals are required to have board certification accomplished by passing a rigorous exam and applying for licensure in the state of practice.

Often, a combination of therapy and medication works best. In that case, patients might see a psychiatrist or psych-mental health NP for medication management and a therapist for talk therapy. Services at Vital Integrative Solutions are offered by a psych-mental health NP.
